The event was in support of a great cause, the “LA Mission” which was created 70 years ago as a nonprofit organization serving the homeless living on the streets of downtown’s Skid Row. They have saved many lives and have had a profound impact on thousands of others by providing compassionate, humanitarian services to those in desperate need.

My friend Jennifer and I enjoyed out time at the event with our friends. David, from David Levi Entertainment was there posing with a few of the Fraggles. The event not only had Fraggle Rock characters for the holiday-winter theme but also brought in real snow and real “fake” snowflakes (they were made out of cornstarch so the flakes didn’t ruin the appetizers or drinks.) If you’re not used to the snow it could be cool, but if you grew up in, well, it is still cool!

Traditions

December 7, 2009

Family traditions, holiday traditions, exercise traditions, what do they all have in common? Traditions typically bring back good memories from past, are significant moments to look forward to, and can be shared with future generations.Laura-Mak-Christmas Ornaments

Now, according to Wikipedia, it is a set of beliefs or custom taught by one generation to the next, often orally. For example, we can speak about the tradition of sending birth announcements. In addition it can be even more fundamental like particular acts or practices repeated over a long sequence of time.

ChristmasIn my family, we had a tradition of going to church on Christmas Eve. This was my favorite because at the end, we sang “Silent Night Holy Night” as we lit candles. It is such a beautiful time. We had some family activities that were traditional to us as well. We would cross country ski in the winter and in the summer we spent time at the lake swimming or biking around the neighborhood.

As we grow older and hopefully wiser, we begin to create new traditions. Last year we started a few of our own traditions. We decided it will be part of “our tradition” to put up holiday decorations by the second weekend in December. My second tradition is to exercise 25 of the 31 days in this month. Why 25? I decided on that number, because I am happier when I exercise, I am a goal-oriented person (so I gave myself a number to aim for), and lastly because I know I sleep more soundly and feel more rested.Laura-Mak-Christmas Tree

What are your family traditions? What do you plan to pass on to generations to come? What are your exercise traditions dedicated to the month of December? Leave a comment and share some of your favorite fitness or lifestyle traditions you enjoy.
